The existing tsunami warning systems are based on how quickly and accurately the public can be warned. However, the end public interface is still based on the top down, text, radio, TV, and local communication systems, and they are not convincing majority of the public to react to the tsunami warnings.
The current tsunami warning systems throughout the world are missing the most important aspect, “A way of CONVINCING the public to take evacuation action immediately”.
The Deep-ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunami (DART) system:
This system has been installed by many countries in the world who are at risk, however, half of the buoys in Hawaii are not working today.
Japan’s latest deep ocean pressure cable tsunami warning system:
The initial price estimation was $600,000,000, (more than 1,000,000,000 today) and the system life expectancy is 25 years. The Japanese government is planning to build this system in the Nankai trough also.
